Today I ordered wool yarn. I usually use cotton or acrylic blends. One of the yarns is a wool/soy blend, Paton SWS. The other is 100% wool, Filatura Lanarota. I purchased the yarn through Smileys internet yarn
sale. Today, I’m knitting a scarf with acrylic yarn.
Yesterday, I went back to housing court. Everything went smoothly. Except that, I will probably have to keep going back again until the landlord receives the rent arrears check I have been approved for.
I was finished at court almost 2 hours before the paratransit van was due to take me back home. So, I decided to wait oustide in front of the court building for the van.
People often stare at me because of the size of my left leg. I have lymphedema. I also have Castleman’s Disease. Sometimes people just stare. Sometimes they comment or ask questions.
Yesterday as, I was sitting outside the court in my wheelchair, passersby stared at my leg as usual. However, one woman who appeared to be in her early sixties, came in front of me and said “where did you get that big leg? Just look at that big leg. I’ve never seen a leg so big.” Then the woman pulled my skirt up to stare at my legs even more. Thankfully, she then quickly walked away.
I was so shocked I did not respond. As I mentioned before, I am used to the comments and stares. But. I hope that is the last time a stranger touches me inappropriately.
I am reading a book titled “A Life in Stitches:Knitting my Way Through Love, Loss and Laughter” by Rachel Harran.
